Patient Information - Your Hospital Stay

Thank you for choosing Calvary John James Hospital

Admission times at Calvary John James Hospital vary and are arranged by the Booking Officer usually 2 days prior to your surgery.  We will contact you with the admission time.

Both private and shared accommodation is available with televisions, phones in all rooms and ensuites in most.  Your preferred accommodation may not be immediately available, but as soon as practicable a transfer to the requested accommodation will be arranged.

The discharge time is strictly 9.30am and we ask that you make arrangements to leave the hospital at this time to allow staff to prepare the room for incoming admissions.

Our Chapel and Eucharist Services

The chapel is located near the main entrance just off the front foyer of the hospital and is available 24 hours a day.  If you would like to receive Eucharist, please inform the nursing staff.

Pastoral Care is also available and a visit can be easily arranged by asking your nurse.

If you would like a visit from a minister of your religion please inform the staff on your ward.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours for surgical wards is 10am to 1pm and then again from 3pm to 8pm.

Visiting hours for maternity patients is 3pm to 5pm and then again from 7pm to 8pm.

Patients staying in the Rehabilitation Unit will be provided with a treatment program and will need to inform friends and relatives of the times they will be available.

There is adequate carparking available within the grounds of the hospital at either the front of the hospital or by continuing to drive towards the maternity entrance.
 

Mail

Mail is delivered to patient rooms daily. Stamps can be purchased from the main Reception, and outgoing mail can be left at Reception for daily posting.

Meals

Our catering staff take great pride in the quality and presentation of meals, and a varied and nutritious menu is offered. The hospital has a Dietician on staff who is available to assist with special diets.

5.00pm – 5.30pm

Morning/afternoon tea and supper is also available.

Patients and visitors are also welcome to utilise the services of Cafe Avanti, located in the main corridor and Cafe Medici. The Cafe is open from 7.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, and 8.00am to 4.00pm on weekends.

Hand & Foot Massage

The Red Cross Hand and Foot massage volunteers attend the hospital regularly to provide support and comfort to patients.  The massages are freely given and very popular with the patients, adding to the holistic care offered at Calvary John James.

Patient Handbook

Each bed is equipped with a patient handbook which contains more detailed information about hospital services and facilities in your room.

Please ask the nursing staff for a handbook if one is not easily accessible to you.

Patient Satisfaction

We are committed to providing a quality health care service, and want to ensure that you have been provided with the best possible care during your stay.

Prior to discharge you will be given a Patient Satisfaction Survey which we encourage you to complete. The survey can be returned to hospital staff, or mailed back at a later date.

Information from the survey is regularly reviewed, and changes to policies, procedures, and services are implemented where possible to reflect patient feedback.

Pharmacy

Although your doctor will arrange any medication you require, the pharmacy is available for the filling of patient prescriptions or general over-the-counter medications.

Telephones

There is a telephone adjacent to every bed for patient use. Phone cards may be purchased for STD calls. Patients may bring their own mobile phone with them.

Television and Radio

Each bed is provided with a radio, and colour television with access to local channels and Foxtel.

Veterans’ Liaison Officer

The hospital has a Veterans’ Liaison Officer to assist eligible veterans and war widows. Members of the ex-service organisations may visit you.

Laundry

The hospital does not provide a personal laundry service.

Privacy Policy

We believe that our patients can feel safe in the knowledge that we safeguard their personal health information ensuring that confidentiality is respected and information is stored securely. The hospital is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulation and in accordance with the highest ethical standards.

We collect information that is necessary for the provision of your health care.  This may include collecting information about your health history, family history, ethnic background or your current lifestyle to assist the health care team in diagnosing and treating your condition. Our staff will always endeavour to be sensitive to your needs when obtaining personal health information.

You have a right to access your health record and to request an amendment to your health record should you believe it contains inaccurate information. Should you wish to access your health record ask for our Director of Clinical Services who can give you more detailed information about how to access your health record.
